It is International Women’s Day today and Google Doodle has come with an animated video to mark the occasion.
The doodle features multilayered 3D paper mandala animation. As put by Google, “It honours women coming together throughout the world and generations.”
The one-of-a-kind animated tribute features three layers. The first one is a black-and-white layer that depicts women from across the globe during 1800s to 1930s. The second one reflects women from 1950s to 1980s. According to Google, it was a “landmark era in the wake of pushes for gender equality and rapid changes to the status quo.”
The third and the final layer symbolises women from the 1990s to the present-day. “It pays tribute to breaking barriers from former cultural and gender roles, as women continue to question, reclaim, and redefine ideas about the roles women take on in society,” Google said in a statement.
In the end, all the three layers come together to form the middle letter ‘O’ in the word Google.

The women’s day special doodle has been illustrated by Oslo and London-based guest artists Julie Wilkinson and Joyanne Horscrof from Makerie Studio, and animated by Zurich-based guest animators Marion Willam & Daphne Abderhalden from DRASTIK GmbH. It represents both the history of this powerful celebration and the significance it has for women across generations.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 every year.
